Weakdays

State Of Bliss - The Demos (1995) — By Thermos on February 20, 2010 at 9:13 am

Thermos:
I wrote “Weakdays” in the early Spring of ‘95, just before I joined Burnt Toast.  Basically, it’s a song about the tedious nature of everyday life.  Some people feel unable to deal with it on the general level, but they manage to find the means to keep going.  Yeah, deep, I know – deal with it.  Along with my affection for strange chords, I also have the weird idea of pairing less-than-happy lyrics with bubbly, poppy music.  Probably because I’m a jerk.

Hopefully, either Ingus or Louis remembers why we decided to make a gameshow out of the demo – one in which Alex Trebek is the host of Wheel of Fortune, apparently.  Anyone else remember the days when the winners had to “buy” their prizes at the end of the show, then, when they were down below a set value, they’d get the remainder on a gift certificate?  Ceramic poodle?  Someone really does need to solve this puzzle.  Har har.

Ingus:
It’s a reference to The Tick cartoon.  The Tick gets beaten up pretty badly, looks at the camera, says, “Alex, I’ll take the ceramic poodle for $300, and the rest on a gift certificate,” and then collapses.  Louis and I thought this was the funniest thing in the history of saturday morning cartoons.  We may have been right.

Thanks for posting all this Toasty Goodness. I seem to remember first hearing this at GMI during an exam-week Midnight Breakfast event. That night the witty intra-Toast banter included intentional, Derekism-based confusion between the Phi Delts and the regular Delts.
