May (The Pirate Song) (Demo)

Do Not Eat (1994) — By Ingus on October 7, 2009 at 8:40 am

May was one of three songs I wrote in Ann Arbor going to school at UM, wishing I was home in Flint Town.  The other two were Pipes and Cigars (which never saw the light of day until The Halftones) and In Your World.

This song went pretty much unchanged from this demo to present day.  On Do Not Release, we upped the “Hey!”s quite a bit, which we couldn’t do with the four-track and pa head method used here.

But none of that is important.  What is important is how on earth the freecreditreport.com people got a hold of this song.  If you haven’t seen it, one of their commercials sports the EXACT melody and feel of our beloved pirate song.  Oh, sure, they changed the chorus, but they’re not fooling me.  Somebody sold us out!  I bet it was Jay.

Okay, maybe not.

Thermos brought me over a big box of photos to use for the site.  Most of them are from later than this period, but one was today’s picture, another from the Band Geek Convention house party.  Visible is the ancient PA head that we used as a mixer for this recording, as well as Jay, who we used as a bass player for this song!  Enjoy!
